The Mersey Forest
The Mersey Forest is a growing network of woodlands and green spaces being created across North Cheshire and Merseyside. Since 1991 our partnership of local authorities, schools, community groups, businesses and others has planted almost 9 million trees bringing a whole range of benefits to the local area.
For People – 1 in 3 people in The Mersey Forest area use their local woods every month helping them to keep fit and healthy.
For wildlife - We create vital habitats for all kinds of wildlife, from, the smallest bugs to our best-loved birds and mammals.
For the economy – We make our towns and cities attractive places to live, work and visit, helping to boost the local economy.
As part of GIFT-T!, the Mersey Forest is leading the work to identify where interventions in green infrastructure should be targeted in order to maximise the benefits that can be gained from sustainable management of the environment. The work uses a GIS-based methodology, which can provide stakeholders with a complete picture of the green infrastructure resource in their case study area. Further analysis and discussion with stakeholders will identify the range of functions or services that each parcel of land performs and assist stakeholders in deciding between alternative interventions.
